The Lid
Defining moments change the course of a life. They often change the course of history. And sometimes they change eternity. You can’t predict them, you can only receive them. They redefine purpose and compass heading in a flash.
The picture today is of a hundred year old antique plow and planter wasting away in a non-descript field. I happened upon it one early morning. When I raised the lid of the planter I was struck in my heart. It was one fourth full of unplanted seed. 100 year old seed trapped to never produce fruit. Instantaneously I could feel the trajectory of my call delivered—to help men discover and plant the dream seed God specifically created in each heart. I also knew my trapped seed had to be planted first. I reached in and rescued one seed. The one that had been waiting on me for this moment in the history of time. As I prayed, I heard the Spirit say “I called you to write.” I took my seed and dug a hole in the earth with my bare hands and planted it as a symbol that I was all in. The message in the book he wrote through me soon after, Seven Days in Utopia, was a call to us all to find and plant that seed.
Today as I returned to that seed bin on our ranch five miles out of Utopia, my reflection went deep. What if I wouldn’t have lifted that lid… God’s precision leaves me in constant awe.
